Meet bob

Bob Lindberg has been working with wood since he was a boy, first as a carpenter and builder, then building furniture, and finally as a woodturner. He and his wife, Maryann, live in a house he built in Swanzey NH, where he no longer has to house his workshop in the garage! His wood designs reflect his Finnish and Swedish heritage, and every piece is as unique as the tree from which it came. His pieces tend toward the practical, ranging from pieced cutting boards and rolling pins to bowls, pens, and other beautiful works for everyday use. He also crafts commissioned furniture, having built beds, armoires, tables, desks, and other personalized works. Among his work, you will find woods ranging from common maple and oak to exotic, sustainably-harvested woods from all over the world.

Artist’s statement

I started working with wood over 60 years ago. Over the years, my skills have grown to the point that I enjoy sharing my creations with others. Married life offered me a plethora of opportunities to keep my carpentering skills in practice, as I proceeded to start building most of the furniture in our home. When I retired, I decided to start my own business building furniture, turning bowls and creating beautiful pieces for others.

When I am working with wood, it seems to be a process where I come to understand what this particular piece of wood wants to become. I find that the wood tends to show me what it wants to spend the next part of its existence being, and I use my tools and skills to help it become what it wants to be.

Now, with the founding of my Finlandia Fine Woodworking website, I am able to share my craft with others on a larger scale than just selling at local shows. I hope you will share my love of working with wood. It is a living process where I take sustainably-harvested lumber both from New England and from Central and South America, Africa and Asia and create beautiful pieces for your home and kitchen. I love sharing my skills with others, and hope that you will find a place for my artwork in your life.
